THE Bowling World Cup jinx for Malaysia continued, as Siti Safiyah Amirah bowed out in the semifinals to England's Zara Giles over two games (202 - 180; 218 -226)

Malaysia have never won the title - men or women - in the 45 years history of the championship.

Shalin Zulkilfi, has competed in seven Bowling World Cup editions and holds the championships record of the most appearance, but has never won it.

The closest she came was in her debut appearance in 1996 in Belfast where she finished runner-up. Her other finishes include 3rd (1997), 3rd (1998), 5th tie (2000), 5th tie (2001), 5th tie (2004).

In the men's category, Malaysia's best finish is by Michael Chuah in 1983 when he finished second in Mexico.

It must be frustrating for Siti who have finished ahead of Zara over the 40 games played over three days and lose out in the best of three games.

It was the same frustration Shalin faced and could only nod her head in agreement when asked if it is Bowling World Cup jinx for Malaysia.

Shalin was here with fellow national and back-up bowlers to lend Zulmazaran and Siti support.

Shalin also was the co-commentator with Raymond Goh in the live telecast of the Siti’s semifinals match which was shown over Astro 816.

“I had difficulties in with the lanes and had to constantly adjust, But Zara was settled and moved on,” said Siti.

“But I was better in the second game as I found the right ball and was able to handle the lanes better. But Zara did she had to do to win – strike home to win. She was the better bowler today and she deservedly won.

“Of course I am disappointed that I had failed to win on home ground and with all the support.

“But I gave my best and it was not enough. I hope will be able to get a shot at the title again.”

National coach Holloway Cheah agreed that the lanes were much more difficult for the semifinals.

“We had to do a lot adjustments and ball changes. And when we got the right ball for the second game, Siti did well but Zara did better,” said Holloway.

“I am happy with both Siti and Zulmazran’s performance, but I just feel that be could have done better, especially since it was home ground.”

On Zulmazran failing to make the cut to be among the top three, Holloway said that probably the former was trying too hard.

“I know for a fact that Zulmazaran gave his best shot. But with the focus on him all week, I don’t know if the pressure got to him and he was trying too hard.

“In any case, I have no complains about both Zulmazran and Siti’s effort, commitment, focus and desire to do well.”
