JSSL CONTINUE TO RULE AT DATUK CHU TOURNAMENT

JSSL EDGE RIVALS FOR OVERALL TITLE

Junior Soccer School League (JSSL) 1 from Singapore continued to stamp their authority when they wrested the Dato’ Chu Ah Nge Challenge trophy for the sixth time in the 16th Royal Selangor International Junior 7s Soccer two-day tournament which ended yesterday (Sunday) evening at the  RSC Mont Kiara Sports Annex  field.


Under-12 champions and Datuk Chu Cup winners: JSSL (1) 

JSSL who were overall champions of the five-category age group tournament, wrested the title from 2015 till 2019, when the tournament had to take a two years hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

JSSL 1 yesterday won the Under-10 title when they beat KLYS in the final 1-0.

In the Under-8 and Under-12 championship category, they finished third, while they also bagged Man of the Match for the final for Under 10 where Zayden Ng was adjudged the best, while in the Under-14 category, Kaststubh Telidevpra (pix below) was the Top Scorer.




Competing teams collect points at all age groups, namely the Under-8’s, Under-10’s, Under-12’s, Under-14’s and Under-16’s, with the Dato’ Chu Ah Nge Challenge Trophy being presented to the team that has the highest cumulative point score at the end of the tournament.

 

JSSL had two teams in each of the five age-groups in this tournament, including and all-girls team in the Under-12 category.

JSSL is one of the biggest football academy in Singapore who been in existence for 15 years now and have their own international tournament in April which teams from all over the world.

 

“We had not expected to bag the title again as we were coming back after a two-year hiatus because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We were just hoping to do our best, and winning the title for the sixth time is indeed a bonus,” said coach Mohd Khairil.

 

“We had ten teams competing here in the five categories and the teams all gave their best and returning home with the Challenge Trophy is indeed rewarding.”

 

A total of 80 teams and 960 children competing in this year’s Datuk Chu tournament this year.

 

56 local teams and 24 foreign team from five countries are competing in the Under-8’s, Under-10’s, Under-12’s, Under-14’s and Under-16’s categories.

 

Host Royal Selangor Club fielded teams in all five categories.

 

RSC’s best performance was when they won the Plate title for Under-12 when they beat KLYS 1-0 in the final. RSC’s Under-10 was in the Plate final too, but lost to Bintang Baru 1-0.

 

Perdana United FC took the thunder in the Under-8 category when they won the title Budak Bola 2-0 and bagged Man-of-the-match final (Muhammad Zafran), Tournament’s Best Player (Akif Baihaqi) and Top Scorer (Nady Umar).

 

The foreign teams which competed were from Singapore (JSSL FC1 and FC 2), from Vietnam (Brazilian Football School Hanoi), from Maldives (BG Academy and Maldives Soccer Mates), from Indonesia (Tangsel Junior Nusantara, Inspire FC Medan & Medan Youth), from Thailand (Krungkao FC).

 

Other previous champions competing this year who missed out on capturing the Datuk Chu Cup were Bintang Baru from Penang (2006, 2007 and 2013),  CIMB -YFA  (2009- 2012 & 2014), and host Royal Selangor Club (2008).

 

Bintang Baru won the Under-12 title defeating Tangsel  Junior Nusantara 1-0 and bagged the Best Goalkeeper award - Muhammad Farish Haikal.

 

Destiny Football Development Centre (DFDC), who were Milo RSC Under-12 International football 7s 2018 in their debut appearance, who were hoping for a similar debut appearance fate in the Datuk Chu Cup, had to settle for two runners-up spots in the Under-14 category when they lost to Villarreal Academy 0-1 and in the Under-16 final losing to KLYS FC 0-1. 

However, they had the consolation when Kaden Stephens was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper for the Under-14 category and Kyle Joshua Skelchy (pix below) was named the Best Player for the Under-16 category.

The development programme founder and owner, Aylwin Skelchy, said that they were so close to bagging the title in their debut appearance, but it was not to be.

“We will return next year and hopefully will bag the title,” said Skelchy whose Destiny DFC is based at Rim Bayu in Kota Kemuning and Bandar Sri Damansara Baru.

Datuk Chu tournament organsing chairman, Datuk Gerald Rakish Kumar, was grateful to all teams who competed, especially the overseas teams to make the tournament a glamorous international tournament of high standard.

“Every team the tournament, raises it’s bar in organisation and competition level and I am happy that despite the tournament making a comeback after two years, it has not fell down in expectations level but moved to a higher level,” said Datuk Gerald.

Indeed it was exciting two days tournament, especially with the World Cup fever having engulfed worldwide, these youngsters too were trying to emulate their own ‘stars’.

 

Every edition of the tournament has never failed to unveil rising stars among these youngsters and this year was no different.

BRIEF ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

 

The RSC Dato’ Chu Ah Nge International Junior Soccer Tournament is a flagship event in the Royal Selangor Club (RSC)’s annual sporting calendar.

 

Initially launched in 2005 as an opportunity to provide a competitive environment for all age group teams in the Royal Selangor Club, the tournament has since grown rapidly to include teams from around the region. Through the benevolence of the club’s Past-President Dato Chu Ah Nge, the inaugural tournament was a success amongst the participants, both players and coaches and have since organised it as an annual tournament.

 

This tournament has been acclaimed as one of the premier grass roots junior soccer tournaments in the region and has been gaining popularity every year from its 1st edition and has continued to attract large number of teams from well-known Clubs and Associations from around this region. This grassroots tournament requires participating teams, clubs and soccer academies to compete in all Five (5) age groups. Competing teams collect points at all age groups, namely the Under-8’s, Under-10’s, Under-12’s, Under-14’s and Under-16’s, with the Dato’ Chu Ah Nge Challenge Trophy being presented to the team that has the highest cumulative point score at the end of the tournament.

Lasses stand up to the challenges of the boys

The Junior Soccer School & League (JSSL)  (2) Under-12 team from Singapore are making heads turn around and the talking point in the 16th Datuk Chu Ah Nge International 7s football tournament ongoing at the Royal Selangor Club Sports Annex in Bukit Kiara.

 The JSSL (2) is the only team among the total of 80 teams competing in this tournament which is fielding an an all girls teams.

Some teams have one or two girl players in their team, but JSSL (2) is the only team who have a full team of 12 girls.

 

This is the second time that JSSL, one of the biggest football academy in Singapore who been existence for 15 years now, are sending a full girls team.

 

“This team has been around for more than a year and in July, they competed in the Gothia Cup in Sweden (world largest and most international youth football tournament) did well where they won most of their matches in a friendly category,” said Harvey Davis, the Managing Director of JSSL.

 

“We have 150 girls in our school in and these girls are among the best. We have two teams in each of the five age-groups in this tournament and two of our better girl players playing with the boys team - one each with the Under-8 team and Under-10 teams. So in total we have a team of 12 girls and 2 more girls in two teams.

 

“The all-girls team the last time qualified for the plate final, but this time around, we hope to do better this time around in the plate event.”

 

The JSSL 2 team in their opening match in their Group D fixture of the Under 12, lost their opening match to KLYS 2-0.

 



In their next match against the all-boys Brazil School from Hanoi, Vietnam, lost 0-3 and inn their final Group match against Indonesia’s Tangsel Junior Garuda, went down 0-3 too.


"We were up against strong boys teams and it was a great learning experience for the girls. We hope we can do better in the round 2 fixtures," added Davis.

 

A total of 56 local teams and 24 foreign team from five countries are competing in the Under-8’s, Under-10’s, Under-12’s, Under-14’s and Under-16’s categories.

 

Host Royal Selangor Club are fielding teams in all five categories.

 

The foreign teams are teams from Singapore (JSSL FC1 and FC 2), from Vietnam (Brazilian Football School Hanoi), from Maldives (BG Academy and Maldives Soccer Mates), from Indonesia (Tangsel Junior Nusantara, Inspire FC Medan & Medan Youth), from Thailand (Krungkao FC).

 

JSSL who also organise their annual international tournament yearly, have extended a discounted a 50 percent entrance fee for all teams competing in the 16th Datuk Chu Ah Nge International 7s football tournament.

 

The tournament held in April normally charges S$1,400 as entrance fee per team.

 


“We are strong supporters of the Datuk Chu Ah Nge International 7s football tournament and as our appreciation, we are offering the discounted entrance fee. Also we are aware that with the current exchange rate, it can been expensive for the Malaysians and this discount will certainly help them,” said Davis.
