Kalmadi says CWG infrastructure is complete
While addressing the media persons on the occasion of the setting up of the first venue operational team in New Delhi on Friday, Chairman of Commonwealth Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi said that the infrastructure for the Games is complete and everything is in place. Further he also mentioned Commonwealth Games Federation chief Michael Fennell's contentment over the development. Kalmadi also stated that the test events have given the Indian players a chance to train under foreign expertise and therefore they are expecting ample medals for the country this year. Malaysian junior netball girls emerge champion yet again!
The Malaysian Under-21 netball team emerged champions of the 7th Asian Youth Netball Championship at the Thygaraj Netball Stadium in New Delhi yesterday afternoon with a convincing 65-39 win over Sri Lanka in the final.
Earlier fears of a tough encounter against the fast improving Sri Lanka youth team yesterday,whom the Malaysians had defeated 75-53, was dismissed from the first whistle.
The Malaysian girls meant business yesterday and wasted no time in stamping their authority with a 16-7 lead for the first quarter. In the second quarter the Malaysians scored 19 goals as opposed to Sri Lanka's 10 for a total score of 35-17.
Sri Lanka who had upset Singapore in the semifinals were pale shadow of their performance against the Republic. They looked a spent force and this only made things easier for the Malaysians.
At the end of the third quarter, the Malaysian already had the game sealed with their 49-30.
In the final quarter, the Malaysian went on overdrive to score 14 goals as compared to Sri Lanka's 9 for a final score of 63-39.
This was the Malaysian youth team's fourth consecutive win in the championship.
Malaysian High Commissioner to India, HE Datuk Tan Seng Sung, gave away the prizes to the Malaysian girls.
Malaysian coach, Choo Kon Lee said that the players played according to their game plan which was to put the pressure of the Sri Lanka goalkeeper and it worked well.
In the third placing match, Singapore made some amends for their disappointment of not making the the final, with a 56-38 win over host India to clinch the third spot.

Indian athletes unable to take advantage of home ground faciities for 2010 Delhi CG
New Delhi: With barely 80 days to go for the Commonwealth Games, it's not just the venues, which are still racing towards completion, the delay in getting the stadiums may also affect India's medals tally in the Games.
After being delayed for almost a year, boxing stadium was one of the first venues to be finally handed over to the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.
The facilities will now be put through rigorous tests. That means Indian players will have only a few days to practice in the stadium before the Games in October.

Most other stadiums for the Games are near completion, and they are yet to be handed over.In contrast, stadiums in China for the Olympics were ready almost a year before the Games, giving the home side enough time to practice.
"Every country which has Games on home grounds has an advantage as it's held on their grounds, we don't have that advantage as they keep postponing it, first March, then July now, August," said Organising Committee member V K Malhotra.
Commenting on the issue, Chairman of the Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi said, "I wish the stadiums were ready earlier. Let us see how much can be done now."
"It's good that where we have tournaments and there only we would get training, it's really good that way, " said Olympian Akhil Kumar.

No relaxing of conditions for Malaysian tourists to travel to India during Commonwealth Games
There will be no relaxing of a new rule imposed this year by Indian Immigrations for Malaysian tourist travelling to India, where they can only visit India only once in two months.
Dato' Tan Seng Sung, the Malaysian High Commissioner to India, clarified yesterday in New Delhi, that contrary to reports that the rule has been relaxed during the Commonwealth Games, it is not so.
"The rule of Malaysian tourists only allowed to travel to India once in two months is also effective during the Commonwealth Games," said Datuk Tan.
"I hope Malaysians tourists who are thinking of travelling to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games are aware that the rule has not been relaxed. If they have come to India anytime within two months of the Games, they will not be allowed to enter the country again for the Games."
